DOCK WORKERS NEEDED – Towne Air Freight is a full service transportation company specializing in handling of LTL and air freight shipments for commercial accounts, air freight and expedited services. Founded in 1963, Towne Air Freight has enjoyed consistent growth and has been profitable every year since 1982. We now have over 60 terminals, nearly 100 employees and operate over 1100 pieces of equipment. Are you ready to work for a world class service provider? Currently seeking Part Time Dock Workers in our Elizabeth facility. Hours are: Shift 1 – Sunday to Friday – 10:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. (or midnight to 4:00 a.m); Shift 2 – Sunday to Friday – 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (or 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). Minimum shift of 4 hours with total weekly hours at 25 to 30. Job Duties: Uses safe-lifting procedures, loads and unloads cargo, including heavy, bulky and/or cumbersome goods. Uses various mechanical aids, such as barrel trucks, forklifts and associated hardware, hand trucks, pallet jacks (electric or manual), Johnson bars, rollers and any other available equipment, to move, load, arrange, rearrange and unload shipments. Properly and efficiently completes all necessary paperwork, including inspection reports, manifests, bills of lading, accident reports and any other report or record required by law, regulation or Company policy. Verifies load against shipping papers, noting in writing any overages, shortages or damage. Communicates with supervisors in person or by way of telephone or radio to advise of moves and scaling problems with equipment, goods, etc., receive instructions on work to be performed, report delays in task performance, report all injuries and accidents, report safety hazards observed; and report any overages, shortages, damage to goods or improper loading. Communicates tactfully and diplomatically with persons with whom employee comes into contact as Company representative. Requirements: read, write, communicate and comprehend English language sufficiently to perform the various tasks of job, including, but not limited to: communicating with coworkers and general public. Can accurately and efficiently perform mathematical calculations necessary to do work. Able to operate fork lift including changing and use of various accessories and able to control a two-wheel hand truck, four-wheel dock cart and other freight handling equipment. Possesses good judgment necessary to perform job functions, including but not limited to handling customer goods safely and efficiently and communicating tactfully and diplomatically with those persons with whom employee will be in contact as a Company representative. Physical Demands: Position requires the individual to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and climb or balance up to 2/3 of the time, to sit, kneel, crouch or crawl, to talk to heat to taste or smell less than 1/3 of the time; to lift a weight or exert force from 10-25 pounds up to 2/3 of the time, from 50 to over 100 pounds 1/3 of the time. Ability to perform physical labor without restrictions, including lifting equipment in excess of fifty pounds, performing work on rocks, scaffolding and ladders. The position requires close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision an depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Technical school diploma or equivalent knowledge plus a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsibility and experience as a carpenter, at least three (3) years of which shall have involved taking a lead in installation, repair, and maintenance of all applicable components/systems. Thorough knowledge of local, state and national codes. Valid Driver’s License is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary purpose of the Carpenter I position is to perform building related construction, maintenance and repair to assure safe and functional facilities. These duties also include related equipment installation, furniture installation and repair. Oversees work of other mechanics and/or trades helpers.
