2012-2013 Buick and GM Achievers Scholarship Program, deadline Feb. 29. 2012
Buick and the GM Foundation announced the launch of the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for the 2012-13 school year. Among the largest scholarships awarded over multiple years, the expanded program this year includes current undergraduate students, as well as high school seniors and graduates.
The move is intended to address high drop-out rates for students unable to complete their academic goals due to financial concerns. It also helps to identify college students who have had more time to develop interests in majors covered by the program including science, technology, engineering and design, along with other areas of expertise essential to strengthening our nation’s manufacturing workforce talent.
This scholarship, funded by the GM Foundation, is designed to help students who are leaders in both the classroom and their communities, but who may not have the financial means to attend college. The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will award:
Up to $25,000 per year for 100 students
– AND –
$2,000 one time awards for 1,000 students
Students are encouraged apply who… · Will be enrolling full-time at a 4-year college or university. · Plan to major in one of the following: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Design. · Have an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries.
Applications for the 2012 Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will be accepted online at www.buickachievers.com until February 29, 2012.

with “CircusFit” performance for Newark Day Center children;
Mayor will launch Community Pass Initiative
Newark, NJ – February 6, 2012 – Mayor Cory A. Booker, Feld Entertainment Producer Nicole Feld, Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus clowns, and children from Newark Day Center will welcome “The Greatest Show on Earth” back to Newark and the Asian Year of the Dragon, by hosting a “Spirit of the Dragon” CircusFitSM performance. The event will also launch the Mayor’s Community Pass for the performances. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 7, at 10 a.m., in the City Hall, 920 Broad Street, first floor Rotunda.
Mayor Booker, Ms. Feld, and Ringmaster Iverson will celebrate the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus’ “Dragons” performances at the Prudential Center, which will take place on March 1-4. Designed to ensure that affordable tickets are available in the local community, the Mayor’s Community Pass is valid $10 per ticket for the 7:30 p.m. performances on Friday, March 2. Mayor’s passes for the circus will be available through the Mayor’s office and local social service agencies. Since the inception of the Mayor’s Community Pass program in Newark, more than 700,000 passes have been made available so that Newark families have an affordable opportunity to enjoy quality live entertainment together.
In partnership with Mayor Booker’s “Let’s Move! Newark” initiative, Ringling Bros. performers will present a special CircusFitSM performance for the assembled children from the Newark Day Center. Through the program, children will learn the importance of staying active and staying fit, and how the four elements of the dragon (strength, heart, courage and wisdom) play an important role in each of our lives.
