Organzing and research intern position at New Jersey ‘working Families Alliance

Organizing and Research Intern

Across the country, labor, community and environmental activists are fighting back against conservative attempts to give wealthy taxpayers tax breaks at the expense of essential services. An internship with the NJWFA is a chance to be part of an exciting organization that builds political power for low-income and middle class families, people of color and other marginalized communities. The Program Internship gives interns a set of skills and knowledge that they can apply to careers in politics, labor, communications, policy and the non-profit world. Interns will work with the Organizing Director and

Communications Coordinator to:

•Implement public education and organizing plans around critical issues; •Help organize public events to raise awareness of specific budget cuts and garner support for fiscally responsible budget solutions; • Provide assistance for dynamic press operation ;

• Buildcalendar of local community events and meetings;

• Provide administrative support (photocopying, data entry, etc), as needed

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS NEEDED:

The NJWFA is looking for candidates who are dedicated to social, economic and environmental justice and have a strong commitment to building grassroots power. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are a must. Knowledge of Excel preferred.

Candidates should be able to work well within a team and independently and be flexible.

ABOUT NJWFA:

The NJWFA works to increase the accountability of elected officials over issues important to New Jersey’s working families. We focus on identifying issues like jobs and health care that concern a broad cross-section of organizations and organize successful campaigns to bring about change. We also lead the Better Choices for New Jersey campaign, a coalition of over 80 organizations fighting for a balanced approach to the state budget that asks New Jersey’s wealthiest residents and corporations to pay their fair share.
